Go Green | Traditional Grass Roofs of Norway (21 pics)

Go Green - Traditional Grass Roofs of Norway — Grass roofs or Sod roofs are common on the Faroe Islands, west of Norway. These roofs have begun to reappear as an alternative to modern materials. For hundreds of years houses in Norway have been covered with turf. And they come in different varieties. Some are bright green and almost velvety, others are golden and look like they’re growing wheat or oats. A number of turf roofs have flowers mixed in with the grass, and a few have small trees. The advantages of turf roofs are many. They are very heavy, so they help to stabilize the house. Beihai City in China - The City of the Dead (13 pics)

Beihai City in China - The City of the Dead — Beihai is a city in China which is now known as “The City of the Dead.” More than 100 luxury villas stand empty after they were built six years ago for locals in the Chinese city of Beihai, in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. It was originally built as a place for the upper class to live but it’s a ghostly urban landscape with no actual people living in the buildings, because China’s government forbids its citizens from investing money overseas, so there has been a real boom in real estate as people look for safe havens for their wealth. The business owners were hoping for, would actually buy these properties. Many of these properties are priced at over three million yuan or £285,900. The villas will soon need more money spent on them to protect them from the elements.

Driving is not an option as owning a private car is very costly in Hong Kong. Taking the bus is silly as you really just want to go up a few streets to buy some rice or grocery. Waiting for the bus to come and to zigzag up the hill would take probably an hour. The government in the early 1990s built an extensive network of outdoor escalators near Hollywood Road in Central and smartest residential area called Mid levels to provide pedestrian access up and down the steep slope. The Mid Levels escalators run between Des Voeux Road in Central with Conduit Road in the district and are the longest series of outdoor covered escalators in the world, running for 800 meters.
